Vivid Racing has become quite a name in the Porsche tuning market. As we continually progress with these cars, we are following the news of the latest 2010 Porsche GT3. Who knows, you might see one here at our shop! We got this press release forwarded from Porsche AG and thought we would share the pics. This car is NUTS!
Stuttgart, is putting the new 911 GT3 RS on the starting line: Delivering more engine power with less weight, featuring shorter transmission ratios and further advanced body and suspension elements, the new 911 GT3 RS was developed as the homologated racing version of the 911 GT3 and meets every requirement for ongoing success on the race track. The GT3 RS is the continuation in the series of absolutely uncompromising, sporting 911s homologated for the road.
The heart of the new GT3 RS, its power unit, is based on the engine of the 911 GT3. Like it, the RS power unit now displaces 3.8 instead of 3.6 liters, while delivering still more power and Rpm.
Thus, the new 911 GT3 RS features an engine with 15 additional bhp compared to the 911 GT3 with a maximum output of 450 horsepower from a high revving naturally-aspirated power unit. This six-cylinder reaches a specific output of more than 118 bhp per liter, a benchmark for a natural-aspirated engine in the world. And that is not all: compared to many other high-performance engines, the power unit in the new GT3 RS is completely suitable for everyday use.
The new 911 GT3 RS is equipped exclusively with a six-speed manual gearbox optimized for short gearshift travel, low weight and high efficiency. To enhance the level of performance throughout the entire range of engine and road speed, the gears come with a shorter transmission ratio than on the 911 GT3, deliberately making concessions in terms of even higher top speed.
To further improve its sporting behavior, the new 911 GT3 RS comes for the first time with a specifically adjusted PASM suspension and wider track not only at the rear, but also on the front axle. As a result, the body of the new 911 GT3 RS is wider not only at the rear, but also at the front by use of additional wheel arch covers.
The front axle is fitted with nine-inch-wide wheels running on 245/35 ZR 19 sports tires, the rear axle features twelve-inch-wide wheels on 325/30 ZR 19 sports tires.
The standard dynamic engine mounts enhance the car’s driving dynamics even further. Depending on driving conditions, the mounts change in their stiffness and damping effect, improving the connection between the engine and the body especially when driving very dynamically.
Aerodynamics on the GT3 RS develop even more down force than on the GT3, adding to the car’s race track capabilities. For exactly this reason, the use on the track, Porsche is introducing yet another new option in 2010: a lithium-ion battery that is delivered with the car in addition to the conventional lead battery, and – when used instead of the regular battery – reduces weight by more than 10 kg or 22 lbs.
The new 911 GT3 RS cannot deny its close connection to motor sports which is also obvious from its dynamic looks. The particularly low clearance of the car, the new, extra-large carbon-fiber rear wing with its specifically designed wing supports made of aluminum, the characteristic dual tailpipes on the extra-light titanium sports exhaust, and the special front and rear exclusive to this model make this even more evident.
