Chevrolet just released an announcement stating it will pace all three NASCAR national touring series races this coming weekend. The NASCAR Daytona 500, Xfinity Series, and World Truck Series will be paced by a different model from the American marque: the Corvette, the Camaro, and the Silverado. What’s more, the trio will be powered by a distinct variant of Chevy’s beloved 6.2-liter small-block V8 engine with ties to Chevrolet Cup Series racing engines. Together, Chevrolet’s three pace cars will produce a cumulative 1,370 horsepower!
But we haven’t even touched upon the most exciting news yet: the Chevy Camaro will live to see another year and bring with it the Corvette-exclusive Rapid Blue paint color! The special Rapid Blue color will be featured on each vehicle, while making its official debut as an available option on the 2022 Camaro. All three pace cars will also have a racy red, white and blue theme that is inspired by the 2021 Daytona 500 logo. A tiled pattern using the Chevrolet bowtie, red accents, bold white lettering, and pace car lighting will complete the look for Chevy’s big spotlight this coming weekend.
Camaro fans who have been eyeing the stunning Rapid Blue color on the new mid-engine C8 Corvette will finally get to see how it looks on their own vehicle. As one of the most popular colors for the ‘Vette, it’s only proper that Chevy passed it down to the iconic sports car’s younger brother. The Camaro pace car set to lead the field to green will be an SS 1LE trim equipped with a plethora of track goodies to deliver high-performance thrills, including a Magnetic Ride Control suspension and 1.02 g of cornering ability. Under the hood sits the beloved 6.2-liter LT1 V8 engine that produces 455 horsepower and 455 pound-feet of torque. After all, you know what they say: “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”
“Coming off of a successful 2020 on track in all three NASCAR national series, our drivers and teams are fired up and looking to put Chevrolet back in Victory Lane, starting at Daytona,” said Tony Johnson, director of Chevrolet Car and Crossover Marketing.
Along with the 2022 Chevrolet Camaro, 2021 Corvette, and 2021 Silverado, Team Chevy will present a behind-the-scenes look at Daytona’s impressive history and the technology that is used in its current races. The broadcast is called “Live from Daytona” and will feature some really interesting content as well as showcase the striking GM Firebird I concept. The 20-minute talk show is a free online event at Chevrolet.com/myway that beings on Saturday, February 13 at 11:00 a.m. EST.
