Back at the end of 2006, we were one of the first people to have the new BMW 335I turbo car. Modifications were essentially non existent at the time. Through Agency Power, we developed downpipes, catback exhaust, and did some other cool parts such as Volk TE37 wheels and Rotora brakes. 3 years later we picked up our Project BMW 135I sporting the same motor. Built an intercooler kit, catback exhaust, and carbon trim kit. But we kept forgetting about our turbo inlet and BOV project! Our 335I project car got a prototype piece made and tested back in 2007. Once we got the production piece ready, we had sold the car. But as luck would have it, a local customer had come to us with a 335I sedan and a problem.
With catless downpipe, AFE intake, Spearco Intercooler, and a ECU Flash, this car was down on power. So we put the car on our Mustang dyno and hooked up the boost sensor and AFR sniffer to see what it was doing. Our baseline run showed the Boost dropping off tremendously and holding a max of only 11.5psi. Most flashed N54 motors will run about 1bar (14.7psi) of boost. The car made 270rwhp and 319ft/lbs of torque. The boost leaking was obviously coming from the factory twin diverter valves which gave us the perfect time to put on our Agency Power Turbo Inlet and BOV kit. The Aluminum pipe replaces the entire plastic one with a larger diameter kept all the way through. This improves air flow and also gains power. The Agency Power blow off valve can be configured to vent 50% of the air back into the intake and 50% out to atmosphere for that desired WHOOOSH sound. This also keeps the cars sensors happy to not have any idle issues. Once this kit was installed, we redynoed the car and by the graph you can see we picked up 50rwhp horsepower and 40ft/lbs of torque. The boost held very constant, but because of the stock muffler, the excess backpressure had it taper off. Next week, Agency Power catback for the 335I sedan/coupe to the rescue!
The Agency Power Turbo Inlet/BOV Kit will be available for Pre-Order through Vivid Racing at $495. It is available in all silver, all black, all red, or all blue and includes black silicone couplers and clamps. These will begin shipping July 15th, 2010.
