If you have ever had a chance to see a Akrapovic exhaust in person, you will truly appreciate the quality and craftmanship. No exotic car tax here, you are paying for one of the best exhaust systems ever made. For BMW M3 M4, Porsche 997 Turbo and GT3, Nissan GT-R, and many other vehicle owners have enjoyed the amazing sound of an Akrapovic exhaust… Now its time for the Porsche 991 Carrera drives to as well. Using the same high levels of technical expertise and development that gave Akrapovič its first victory in automotive racing in 2008 – Manthey-Racing Porsche 997 RSR Team at the prestige BF Goodrich Long Distance Championship – this latest Porsche Slip-On Line system is designed to perform and please in equal measure.
The Akrapovič all-titanium alloy muffler body weighs in at 19.8kg (43.7lbs), a reduction of 8.8kg (19.4lb) over the standard item to improve the Porsche 911’s (991) power-to-weight ratio. This figure is further improved with the performance increase given with the Akrapovič Slip-On Line muffler. Both performance curves are increased over standard, while peak output figures are both dramatically improved. Peak power is lifted by 18HP (13.2kW) at 4050rpm, while peak torque output shifts upwards by a further 26ftlb (35Nm) at 4000rpm.
Constructed throughout in titanium alloys, the Slip-On Line muffler has been constructed to allow the retention of the original catalyser and does not cause any CEL (Check Engine Light) issues. The Akrapovič muffler is also EC Type approved. Noise-control valves of the original Porsche muffler are replicated with Akrapovič foundry-produced titanium valves that utilise the original electrical system and controlling ECU. At low rpm exhaust waste is diverted through sub-mufflers to produce a pleasing exhaust tone that is unmistakably Akrapovič. At high rpm the valves open to allow the exhaust to breathe and produce the definitive sound of an Akrapovič sports replacement exhaust.
With adoption of the optional Akrapovič Wireless Kit, the driver can enable the noise-control valves to be opened at any point through the engine rev-range to net characteristics of a competition exhaust system. All of this is available with passenger comfort in mind – Akrapovič engineers have worked long and hard on suppressing ‘cabin drone’.
