Although the latest BMW M5 is a car many of us enthusiasts would love to own, the high price forces many of us to look for cheaper alternatives. One of those alternatives is the BMW M550i which features a 4.4L twin-turbo V8 outputting 456 horsepower, about 150 less than the M5. With some simple modifications, however, that power number can easily be increased. One of those simple modifications is an aftermarket exhaust.
Dinan is one of the biggest names in the BMW aftermarket and they just finished developing their new “Free Flow” exhaust for the M550i G30. This new exhaust features a lightweight construction and retains the factory valve system. This allows you to keep your BMW quiet when you’re leaving for work early in the morning, and loud when you hit a canyon road. Dinan used massive 4” double-walled tips on this new exhaust which really fill up the factory exhaust cutouts in the bumper.
Performance gains are impressive considering this is just an “axle-back” type of exhaust, leaving most of the factory exhaust in place. Once the exhaust is installed, you can expect to gain around 8 horsepower and 6 ft-lbs of torque. More importantly, however, your M550i will have a much sportier sound. If you want even more performance, aftermarket downpipes are a great option for increasing power.
