WP Pro Brakes have been designing and manufacturing high performance brake systems for nearly 30 years. Having used their brake upgrade on our Project CLA45 and other cars like the BMW F82 M4 and Nissan GTR with phenomenal success, WP Pro was a serious consideration for our Toyota Tundra. When it comes to trucks, you might not consider your brakes as an important upgrade. But lets face it, it is a very important mod in the build of your Tundra. Everything you put on your truck adds weight. The big bumpers, the heavy wheels with larger tires, the light bars, spare tire mount, winch, and more. Now add in the fact you are probably towing something to do to get out of town! You have some serious weight traveling that needs to stop better!
Where some might feel that just changing out your brake pads and rotors is good enough, WP Pro has the ultimate in braking performance. As a better alternative to the factory TRD brake upgrade, the new big brake kit for these Toyota models features a meaty 6 piston brake caliper. The larger caliper and increased piston size helps in clamping force and eliminating brake fade. Included in the big brake kit is a set of 2 piece drilled floating rotors. 2 piece rotors are much lighter than stock. Saving pounds of rotation weight can help in many different ways. For each 1lb of rotational weight saved, is like saving 3lbs of fixed weight. If you save 7lbs per corner, then you are really saving 21lbs! This also helps in acceleration and power. In addition, 2 piece floating rotors have better heat dissipation because of the increased vanes. Along with the drilled design, the floating rotors have better brake pad wear over stock. The pads will wear more even on both sides because of the floating design and larger contact area. This particular brake kit is available in a 360x32mm rotor which will clear some 17 inch wheels and great for 18 inch wheels and up. Each big brake kit comes with a set of street pads and steel braided brake lines. The brake lines improve pedal firmness because they will not flex like stock rubber lines.
Having this brake kit on my personal truck that also features the 550 horsepower Magnuson supercharger kit, I can attest to the performance of this brake system. Hurdling this supercharged monster to a stop when necessary is more comforting than before. With nearly 10,000 miles on the WP Pro kit, these brakes have towed our Project McLaren, Project GT3RS, and a Polaris RZR1000 around. Traveling up the highways to Northern Arizona, or heading out to California via the steep hills of the I-8 and I-10 outside of Palm Springs, these brakes never let us down. Is it a necessity, no. But for those that want the best, it is a requirement!
