With the release of the Gen 3 Ford Raptor, the Gen 2 (2017-2020) Ford Raptors have come down in price. As one of the premiere offroad trucks, the Ford Raptor has set the bar that other manufactures continue to try to copy. Ready to take on any challenges offroad, a majority of these Raptors are used as daily drivers. For those not looking to jump a massive stadium truck ramp or tackle the Baja 1000, Vivid Racing has put together a list of perfect beginner mods to get more performance out of your Ford Raptor without sacrificing reliability or driveability.
Upgrade #1 – The Gen 2 has its keyboard warriors from the previous Gen 1 V8 model because the way the 3.5L EcoBoost sounds. You cannot totally change this more efficient and powerful engine to sound like a V8, but you can enhance the sound and gain more power. An exhaust system is one of the best upgrades you can do. To stay emission compliant, the VRP Valvetronic Catback is the way to go.

Upgrade #2 – Turbos work better when they can breathe. This is why an upgraded air intake is a perfect next step for the Ford Raptor EcoBoost. The 3.5L twin turbo will spool up faster, produce more torque and hp, and give you better throttle response with a new air intake kit. Our VRP Cold Air Intake is a direct OEM replacement and dyno tested. The reusable air filter and roto-mold air intake tubes look near factory in the engine bay.

Upgrade #3 – There are 2 ways to go from this point after you do the basic intake and exhaust combo. You can go right for the ECU Tune or spend the big bucks to get an upgraded intercooler to give even more efficiency to the Turbochargers. But if you do not want to deal with taking apart your front end and spending that extra money, have fun with a BOV adapter for the factory intercooler pipe. This CNC machined aluminum part is a simple add on for the factory pressure relief valve to give you that cool SWOOOSH sound in between shifts. Is there an advantage? Its debatable but definitely something fun to have!

Upgrade #4 – This is the most important upgrade you can do to the vehicle once your efficiency parts (intake and exhaust) are changed. The ECU Flash is the biggest HP per dollar you can do. You will be surprised to see that you can gain an extra 100 horsepower out of the 3.5L EcoBoost to the crank. This makes a major difference in that low end torque for pulling and 0-60 where you spend most of your time driving the truck.
