At the 2008 SEMA show, Brembo displayed one of their complete billet race calipers that featured titanium pistons with other bits to make this the ultimate in braking performance. About 90% of these kits are specially made to order. Why 90%? With these RACE systems the customer has the flexibility and reach as we would offer a professional racing team, but with the support and engineering expected through the High Performance division. Brembo’s High Performance Division engineers racing brake systems with the same tanacity it puts behind its OEM division. Each system, while built with professional race hardware, is still engineered vehicle specific based on master cylinder, ABS, traction control, and other important vehicle specifications to provide dramatic improvements in performance while providing optimum brake bias, pedal feel and drivability. This includes the ability to provide systems for dedicated track vehicles with aftermarket master cylinder setups and custom pedal boxes. The available components are preselected by a team of Brembo engineers for their compatibility to a specified vehicle platform. The driver is able to select from this, the desired disc diameter (based on his wheel requirements), caliper type (based on cost, size, desired pad shape for sprint or endurance type racing use), pad compounds (based on intended use with a wide variety of street, performance, and racing compounds), and hardware (fully floating, with or without McLaren style spring plates).
What’s the difference between a Brembo Gran Turismo (GT) system and the Brembo Race type systems?
Actually not a whole lot, but that’s the brilliant part of what the Brembo High Performance division has been providing to the aftermarket consumer for the last 10 years. The Gran Turismo brake systems combine the best of what they have learned through their dominance in professional racing, with the quality and longevity learned as a leading supplier to the top auto manufactures in the world. The goal was to provide a direct bolt on system offering race like performance with OEM reliability. The Gran Turismo philosophy is to achieve the highest level of performance with the lowest amount of maintenance and best possible longevity. The RACE systems follow the same direct bolt on approach, backed again with vehicle specific engineering, and now the highest level of race division componentry ever made available to the public.
Take a look at some of these images and you will see such technical improvements such a vented titanium piston inserts, forged billet monobloc construction, narrow or wide body calipers for endurance or sprint racing pad shapes/sizes, clear hard anodized surfaces for maximum heat dissipation, integral bridges for maximum caliper stiffness or open top calipers for quick pad changes. This is similar componetry as seen on all of our favorite cars from ALMS, Grand AM GT and Rolex, NASCAR, World Rally, World Challenge, etc…
