If you want to make your Evo faster, there are a lot of options to do so. At a certain point, the stock turbocharger can’t flow enough air to make the power you’re looking for. You could always purchase a larger aftermarket turbo, but there are some negative drawbacks to installing a much larger turbo. The biggest drawback is more turbo lag and a higher turbo threshold. This is where HKS comes in with their new GTIII RS Sports Turbine Kit, designed specifically for the Evo VII – IX.
“GT II Turbine” is a new generation of turbo combining MHI brand CHRA with HKS original housings designed from the years of knowledge HKS has accumulated. To put it simply, it’s a relatively small turbo, designed to act similar to stock, but cranked up to 11. Interestingly enough, the kit is available with a turbo restrictor, which limits it to the stock power level, which may be important for emissions testing depending on where you live. For most buyers, the restrictor will not be needed. With a few mods along with this turbo, you can expect upwards of 435ps (430 horsepower), assuming you have the fuel to keep up with the demand. Thanks to the small design, it’s a very linear power curve and provides decent low-end torque, especially compared to larger aftermarket turbos.
