Although BMW makes some of the best sports cars in the world, there is almost always room more improvement. Many enthusiasts opt for increasing horsepower to make the car more fun and faster. The problem is, once you start reaching higher speeds, your brakes must work harder to slow the car down. Braking is friction based, and all that friction transfers to massive amounts of heat. With the OEM braking system, your brakes can begin to fade and you’ll lose all braking power. The easiest way to solve this problem is with a quality aftermarket brake setup. This is where Alcon comes in with their new 2-piece disk assembly.
These Alcon rotors feature “S-Groove” which offers great initial response and maintain consistent disc and pad wear. The curved cooling vanes allow for much better airflow, resulting in improved cooling, plus the rotor was designed with improved thermal capacity in mind allowing for much better thermal management. Lastly, these rotors are quite a bit lighter than the OEM units, resulting in less unsprung weight and less rotational mass. This weight reduction improves the vehicles handling and braking performance.
It should be noted that these rotors are only compatible with BMW F8X models equipped with the OE iron brakes. It doesn’t work with models equipped with the carbon ceramic brakes.
