The 5.7L HEMI under the hood of the Challenger, Charger, and 300C is a powerful engine, but just like any engine, allowing more air in results in more horsepower. In order to let more air in a larger and more efficient air filter must be used, as well as a more optimized design.
Without the use of a proper box around the filter, it can end up sucking hot air in. Hot air is less dense and more prone to detonation.
