If you ever launched a high horsepower RWD car you know how much stress the drivetrain goes under. It’s not uncommon to see aluminum driveshafts twist into a crippled mess at the drag strip. QA1 is very well known in the drivetrain industry and their driveshafts are used in vehicles all over the world. Just recently they got done developing carbon fiber driveshafts for the Ford Mustang and Dodge Challenger Hellcat.
In case you didn’t already know, carbon fiber driveshafts are insanely strong. In addition to being much stronger than an aluminum driveshaft, they’re also lighter. Decreasing rotating mass in the driveline results in less drivetrain loss which will increase how much horsepower actually makes it to the ground. It also improves how quickly the vehicle responds to throttle inputs.
If you plan on doing any sort of drag racing or track racing, then a carbon fiber driveshaft is a massive upgrade. It should also be noted that a carbon fiber driveshaft is a good safety upgrade. The driveshaft is spinning at insane speeds right under the car and if it breaks the remaining part of the driveshaft can pole-vault the rear of the car into the air.
