The new FA20DIT might not sound as iconic as the unequal header sound of the EJ; it still sounds pretty awesome. As with pretty much any turbocharged engine, improving exhaust flow helps the turbo spool up faster and reach a higher overall RPM, resulting in improved throttle response and higher boost levels. For the WRX’s FA20 specifically, Killer B’s header has long been one of the most popular options on the market. To help them stay on top, Killer B is reducing the price of their traditional header from around $1000 to around $900!
You might be thinking “great, but why should I buy a Killer B header in the first place?” Well, that is a completely valid question. Like any header for the FA20DIT, the Killer B header improves exhaust flow by reducing overall pressure and improving exhaust scavenging. One of the big benefits of a Killer B header is their use of 321 Stainless Steel instead of the more common 304 Stainless Steel. This increases the material cost significantly, but for a turbocharged application, offers advantages over 304. 321 offers Increased Strength and Toughness at elevated temperatures, making it less likely to fatigue and crack. 321 was developed by the aircraft industry specifically to address longevity issues with pressurized turbocharged manifolds; addressing cracking from lower quality grades of stainless steel like 304.
