As I type this, thousands of people are about to enter the 2014 SEMA show and get a preview of the car located in booth 32273. But before the car got there, we had to give it some more cool factor other than our white ceramic exhaust, KW suspension, and red Niche wheels. Thats right we have more! For the past 7 months we have been working on some carbon fiber prototypes which we actually blogged about earlier in our Project 991 Turbo section. Well the production pieces finally came in and they are amazing. This includes our carbon fiber mirror caps, carbon fiber intercooler duct covers, and our 991 Turbo strake carbon fiber diffuser. Creating the parts here in Arizona allowed us to get the exact design that we wanted. But for quality purposes to make sure they fit beautifully and had a great carbon weave, we sent them out for production. The result is perfection! Unlike other parts, we made all of these as “add-on” parts where you did not have to remove and replace anything. The carbon ducts slide over the factory black plastic and seamlessly look like that are from the factory. The rear diffuser is a add-on piece that does not require the removal of the lower valance. The mirror caps just sit in place. Very proud of these pieces!
Next up was to pull together our interior of the 991 Turbo. On our previous 997.2 Turbo S we had the GT2 seats and in our GT3RS we had the same and simply loved those factory Porsche seats. Our 991TT came stock with the 4 way adjustable sport seats. These are comfortable but not as “racey” as we would like. So without dropping $10K on a set of GT2 seats, we turned to our partner company, Status Racing. Using the Status Racing Icon Configurator, we designed a seat that was suited for our Porsche and uniquely ours. The Ring GT-X is the latest model of the Ring series. It features a wider bottom which flares out to accomondate up to a 38 inch waist snuggly. The shoulders have been slimmed down to fit narrow cars and not put added pressure on your back for a driving position. Our Ring GT-X in carbon fiber is actually FIA Approved which is a big safety advantage. These are the worlds standards for testing safety equipment. When certifying the seat, it is dependent on the material used. So carbon fiber, FRP, Kevlar each has to be individually tested which can amount to a huge cost. One of the unique accutrements of our Icon Configurator is the new colored carbon fiber weave in red or blue. These are made with the same processes as our standard carbon fiber but not certified. With our bright red wheels, we had to go with the red carbon fiber shells and a interior matching black nappa leather jacket with an embossed Status logo on the headrest. With the seats installed, we were able to program out the thorax airbag light using a factory Porsche PIWIS tool. Now with the seats installed showing off the Agency Power roll bar more, it was time for 1 more add-on!
Our last interior bit was doing the Agency Power upgraded steering wheel. We have a partner in Germany who does OEM steering wheels for many of the top German tuning brands. Utilizing OEM cores, they create molds using the existing steel ring to create a semi flat bottom with more ergonomic hand grips and unique attributes that are all custom. This particular steering wheel features a carbon fiber top with a red 12 o’clock stripe. The hand grips have preforated leather for better breathing of your hands during intense situations, while the remainder of the wheel has beautifully wrapped black nappa leather. The cockpit is now official and a blast to drive.
Up next we will have some data on our TCU Autoflash and our new Tuning Box which adds almost 80 horsepower to the car. Stay tuned to our Project 991 Turbo section and view all our Porsche 991 Turbo Performance Parts here.
