You probably expected another Porsche or something useless to most like a Ferrari FF as the next Project Car here at Vivid Racing. Well guess what, we are switching gears and have one of the First 86 Scion FR-S vehicles! While many people think twin turboing any luxury or exotic means bigger profits, everyone has to start somewhere. We all did. So here we have the all new 2013 Scion FR-S. Shared completely as a project with Subaru, the new BRZ and FR-S have almost identical parts except the badging. But underneath the car, underneath the hood, and even small accoutrements inside, you will notice more Subaru then Scion. With that being said, the Scion and Subaru market is a great market with a solidly built vehicle.
Its 2.0 cylinder normally aspirated engine puts out 200bhp with 151 ft/lbs of torque. Not bad for the horizontally opposed boxxer motor. With a 6speed manual tranny, and rear wheel drive, its suspension is very similar to that of a 2008-2011 Subaru WRX Wagon. Inside the car it features some nice trim with a red stitched steering wheel, shift boot, and even the reclineable, extra bolstered seats have accents of red. However that back seat is as useless as the one in our 997 Turbo. Its front end is very aggressive with alot of plastic mesh treatment that begs to be modified. The rear end and its large diffuser shows off its sporty look. However yet another part that could be enhanced.
To begin our modifying process, we did a baseline dyno on the FR-S. It might have about 40-50 miles on it, so that is probably good as time as any to see how she runs. Vivid Racing has a Mustang AWD dyno which of course we can run in RWD. Typically the Mustang Dyno shows a drivetrain loss even on 2wd of about 20%. The numbers were as expected making 154 rear wheel horsepower and 125 ft/lbs of torque. The car has a nice high redline where you can really take advantage of the power band on the street. With our sister company, Agency Power, we plan to dive in to all the basic bolt-ons. Already underway for the car is an exhaust system and carbon fiber aero parts
So as we begin this very cool Scion FR-S project, we want to hear what you would modify on the car. So leave us some comments! The official Vivid Racing Project FR-S Gallery is here and we will always be posting new updates on our Blog here.
Pretty slick. Get rid of the cheapy looking plastic around the exhaust and front markers. Drop it a bit and some clean wheels!
Lighter wheels with sticker tires (RPF1s maybe). A slight lowering , but not slammed or Hellaflush keep it a track car. HKS supercharger and Intake headers (unequal length to get that boxer sound back) and what ever exhaust.
It’s a minimalist car, don’t go to crazy
Interesting, looks just like mine.

Great to see you guys tackling this project. I know that our forum would love to have you guys post on the site and keep us updated.
Cheers.
I am keen to see a turbo setup!!!
i would love to see full bolt ons, cams, springs, retainers, NA screamer with all the supporting suspension goodies!
Nice car and got potential. Remove the cheapy looking plastic surrounding the exhaust and front markers. Drop it a bit and a few neat wheels!

Waiting with much anticipation to see what you do. My black FRS should be arriving late June.
Would be great to see what kind of potential the engine has without slapping forced induction on it. Seeing what it can handle stock, and pushing it to it’s limits. Then after it cracks, maybe upgrade some engine internals and start again.
