Vivid Racing’s employee’s 2004 Subaru WRX took to the dyno to test and tune a prototype WRX throttle body by Agency Power and freshly refinished 17 inch wheels. The car was already equipped with a turbo back exhaust system, up pipe and Agency Power air intake system along with various suspension mods.
The new throttle body boasts a half inch larger opening over stock. This larger throttle body allows for quicker throttle response and overall gain in power. The “seat of the pants” feeling from this modification was impressive. First gear felt much more powerful and 0-60 was improved. This was only verified with our Mustang II AWD dyno here at Vivid Racing. The car picked up serious power early and held it through out the entire powerband until it tapered off just before redline. Both the torque and horsepower numbers reflect a positive gain. The throttle body picked up +13hp and 8ft lbs of torque on the top end, but nearly +25ft lbs of torque can be seen at around 3k RPM.
The car is set up to be a daily driver with a safe 14-15psi boost range with the stock TD-04 turbo and top mount intercooler. Subaru stated crank horsepower in 2004 to be 227. With drive train loss in an AWD system, a 225 whp car with bolt on exhaust and intake is nothing to shake your head at.
Stay tuned for more info on the Agency Power throttle body.
