The 996 Turbo continually has proven itself as one of the best power platforms of this era. With tuning shops cranking out 1000+ horsepower, the capability of these 911’s is endless. As the price falls, there are still some unmolested 996 Turbos out there with only 30-50K miles on them. That is not much considering the first 996 Turbo debuted in 2001. The first modifications to the 996 are always a exhaust and ECU flash. The stock 996 Turbo whispers when you accelerate on it. Clogging the turbos up, upgrading the exhaust makes a tremendous improvement over stock. But what really makes the power is a ECU flash. The VR Tuned ECU flash for the 996 Turbo with a exhaust makes nearly 100 wheel horsepower. Yes 100! Factory boost is about .6/.7bar and with a tune on a K16 turbo vehicle, you see about 1.0bar and 1.1bar with an exhaust. These cars have huge potential with little initial investment. So we had a local customer bring his Porsche 996 Turbo to get reflashed with our VR Tuned software. The car actually already had a tune on it but it was very flat feeling in the midrange power curve. The best way to tune a ECU is based off of the original map. So we connected our Porsche PIWIS factory tool and reflashed the computer to the stock map with the latest firmware. Once flashed, we were able to read out the file from our iFlash system and provide the customer with a better tune all across the board. Here are some pictures from his visit to our Arizona facility.
