Over the years, Vivid Racing has had a lot of very cool project cars, ranging from supercars, sedans, SUVs, UTVs, and trucks. Pretty much all the previous project cars were relatively “normal” production cars. Our latest project car is something we’ve kept under-the-radar, since it’s not something we really plan on heavily modifying, and that’s our CLK63 AMG Black Series.
The reason for not heavily modifying this car is simple: there aren’t many modifications designed specifically for it. For example, there are pretty much zero options for an aftermarket exhaust system specifically for this vehicle, and many owners resort to having an exhaust shop build a custom system.
We’re not sure exactly how many CLK63 AMG Black Series cars are out in the world, but it’s estimated that Mercedes produced around 700 units globally with around 350 units in the US. What makes ours even more special is the Mars Red finish, making it 1 of 10 in the USA with that gorgeous red color.
Under the hood, the CLK63 is powered by the same M156 6.2L naturally aspirated V8 you’ll find in other Mercedes AMG vehicles. Outputting around 500hp and 465lb-ft of torque, it’s an absolute beast off the line and it has the performance to outrun much newer and more sophisticated performance cars.
Being that it’s a Black Series car, it features widened fenders which allow for a wider track and wider tires. The interior flaunts tons of carbon fiber to help lighten the vehicle and completely omits the back seat for further weight reduction.
The only modification we’ve put on our CLK63 thus far is a set of H&R wheel spacers to help give it a slightly more aggressive stance without replacing the OEM forged wheels.
Due to the unfortunate pandemic of COVID-19, the streets of Phoenix have been incredibly empty compared to the normal flow of traffic, which gave us a great opportunity to explore downtown Phoenix and show off the incredible sounds of the CLK63 AMG Black Series. Check out the video below.
