Replacement Master and Slave Cylinder
There's a lot of stuff going on inside our car. The dynamic and often convenient Master and Slave Cylinder are one of them. Given the forces they are built to counter, the clutch and brakes on a car could use a little support to move, so hydraulic pressure is generated to provide the appropriate force between the master and slave cylinders. The master cylinder, attached to the corresponding pedal, can be located directly behind the pedal box.
What is the Master Cylinder?
The master cylinder converts hydraulic pressure into the mechanical force created by your foot's pressure on the brake. In terms of pushing the brake pads and shoes against both the rotors and drums to stop the car, this pressure works on the brake calipers and wheel cylinders' pistons. The pistons in the master cylinder and calipers/wheel cylinders are designed according to hydraulic principles to offer the wheel brake systems' required strength.
Pistons with springs and seals within a bore inside a cast iron or aluminum housing have a standard master cylinder. With the master cylinder body on cast iron master cylinders, the fluid storage may be essential but is more generally an outer part of nylon or plastic mounted to the top of the body and sealed with O-rings. Integral reservoirs have a single cap protected by a wire bail, with one or two threaded external tanks.
Common Problems of Master Cylinder
Master cylinders can leak fluid through the end seal or internally collapse. Before rejecting the master cylinder, fluid leaks and air somewhere else in the structure must be removed. Check for dampness on the firewall or brake booster underneath the master cylinder. To locate the leak, it would be appropriate to unscrew the master cylinder from the booster. Dampness in the fluid can trigger the bore of the master cylinder to deform and corrode, and based on age and usage; seals can worsen. Either can lead to an internal leak created by the master cylinder and concerns of a low pedal and poor braking. External reservoirs and covers may form cracks.
What is the Slave Cylinder?
A part used on vehicles fitted with manual transmissions is the clutch slave cylinder. When the pedals are applied, it works along with the clutch master cylinder to pull back the clutch so that the transmission can be moved securely. The clutch slave cylinder absorbs pressure from the master cylinder and stretches a bar to disconnect the clutch, pressing against such a fork or lever. Suppose the clutch master cylinder has some difficulties. In that case, it can create problems with changing gears that will take away from the vehicle's precise maneuverability and can even affect the transmission. A clutch slave cylinder can typically make a few indications that warn the driver that an issue has arisen and that maintenance needs to be given.
Symptoms of a Bad Clutch Slave Cylinder
An odd clutch pedal feel is one of the first hints to a possible issue with the clutch master cylinder. It can trigger the pedal to feel soft to the touch or soggy if the clutch slave cylinder experiences leakage internally and externally. Another indication generally linked with a concern with the clutch slave cylinder is low or polluted liquid in the reservoirs. In the machine, and maybe at the slave or master cylinders, low fluid can be triggered by leaks.
Despite the master and slave cylinder's dilemma, we will provide you with a replacement component made to OE specifications at a reasonable price for an exact fit and perfect output. We have master cylinders, slave cylinder kits, master cylinder/vacuum brake booster combos, and even master cylinders with external reservoirs for specific uses.
Here at Vivid Racing, we offer a comprehensive selection of master cylinder rebuild packages for some uses. We also sell reservoirs and caps separately. There are fluid level sensors mounted to the master cylinder in certain cars. We have these sensors, plus, we have bleeder instruments that make master cylinder bench bleeding function momentarily.
