Green Light Triggers

Green Light Triggers | GLT Version 1.0 and 2.0

Green Light Triggers LLC was formed in 2018 after acquiring the intellectual property rights (Patents: 7,330,132 B1 and 7,026,955 B2) from the original manufacturer of what we refer to the GLT Version 1.0. After the acquisition, a comprehensive re-design was embarked on, aiming to fix some functionality issues regarding design and effectiveness. After a re-tooling and re-design, they put the New GLT 2.0 into production. This new design is three times as powerful and exponentially more functional. Green Light Triggers LLC is based in beautiful West Linn, Oregon, on the southern edge of Portland.

Green Light Trigger - GLT 2.0

The patented* Green Light Trigger GLT 2.0 employs two powerful neodymium magnets and a custom-designed low-profile plastic injection molded chassis that legally turns red traffic lights into green ones. The GLT 2.0 accomplishes this by creating eddy currents in the inductive-loop traffic detectors embedded within the pavement at most traffic light signals which, in turn, "trigger" the detectors, sending a signal to the traffic light to turn from red to green.

Full-size trucks and cars already possess a large enough metal mass to disrupt the detector's magnet field, naturally, when these bigger vehicles stop near or directly over the sensors while waiting at red lights. Smaller vehicles, however, lack the structural mass to accomplish the same triggering process.

The GLT 2.0 compensates for this deficiency by cost-effectively and efficiently "enlarging" their presence at traffic signals - and now red lights are triggered to turn green as if they were the same full-size vehicles. There is no more endless waiting at stoplights or dangerous user-fixers like running red lights.

Steps on Attaching Your Green Light Triggers

Step 1:

Attach the Green Light Trigger GLT 2.0 (GLT) to the undercarriage of the motorcycle, bicycle, or scooter frame to a ferromagnetic metal (that attracts magnets) with the thin magnet facing up and the thick magnet facing down to the pavement. The GLT's magnetic properties are powerful enough to keep it stuck to the bike on all ferromagnetic metals.

Step 2:

If your bike has no ferromagnetic metals to attract the thin magnet, simply find a place to secure it to the frame using the included zip tie. The zip tie simply threads through the slots on the sides of the GLT. Thread it through and around the bike frame and zip it tight. Ensure the thick magnet remains facing down to the pavement.

Step 3:

Ensure the bike is centered in the traffic lane at the traffic light when stopped.

Step 4:

The GLT naturally emits its magnetic properties into the pavement.

Step 5:

The light traffic sensor in the pavement detects the magnetic signals from the GLT ? alerting it that a vehicle is present and needs to pass.

Step 6:

The traffic light sensor sends a signal to the traffic light telling it needs to turn from red to green.

Step 7:

The light turns green, and the bike passes through the intersection.

Is the Green Light Trigger Legal?

We get this mistaken criticism from time to time: "It's illegal to trigger green lights. That device is illegal." Sorry. But wrong! Granted, these are honest mistakes. Still, they are simply born out of confusing emergency vehicle devices, called MIRT devices ? and otherwise known as Mobile Infrared Transmitters ? with our own Green Light Trigger devices. The two devices use completely different systems to trigger green lights. One is restricted to emergency vehicles, and the other is for civilian vehicles.

MIRT devices are 12-volt-powered strobe lights that can send signals from more than 1,500 feet away to traffic lights and, when sensed by traffic lights, immediately result in the signals in that direction turning green. Those devices are exclusively restricted to emergency vehicles like ambulances, police vehicles, and fire vehicles to trigger green lights in emergencies and are typically mounted to their windshields.

And we've all seen them in action. Your green light is suddenly and immediately switched to red while simultaneously you hear an emergency vehicle's sirens alerting traffic to move aside. MIRT devices are highly illegal to possess and use by "civilians." They are restricted to emergency personnel for emergencies, and they trigger a sensor directly at the light.

The Green Light Trigger does not use that technology and does not trigger that particular light sensor. The Green Light Trigger uses a different sensor embedded in the pavement called the induction loop detector or induction loop sensor.

These sensors are placed there, on the pavement, to detect civilian vehicles. When a civilian vehicle stops at a traffic light above or near the embedded sensor, the sensor's magnetic field is disrupted by that presence. It understands that a vehicle is waiting and will need to pass. It then sends a request to the light to turn green, and in the normal traffic flow, a green light will occur. The process is not typically immediate, but a green light is effectively triggered when this process occurs anywhere from 10 to 45 seconds after the disruption.

Unfortunately, the induction loops are somewhat crude technology. While they're efficient at detecting large structural masses, like full-size cars and trucks, they are severely ineffective in detecting smaller structural masses, such as motorcycles and bicycles. This is true even though they are intended to do so. Motorcycles and bicycles are as entitled to trigger a green light just as much as a full-size vehicle is.

Then, the Green Light Trigger simply compensates for this lack of structural mass by employing the power of two legal and safe neodymium magnets on a customized chassis that affixes to the smaller vehicle in question, "enlarging" its mass and making it "visible" to the induction loop detector. The induction loop detector is there to detect the each-and-every vehicle.
