A Brief History of Mallory Ignition
The company was formed in 1925. It grew swiftly and massively, and ten years later, it relocated from Ohio to Michigan. Marion Mallory Sr. established contact with his long-time friend Henry Ford. For the Ford Model 18 with the flathead V-8, they designed a new ignition system. Following that, Mallory fulfilled a one-million-item purchase from Ford Motor Company and maintained a long-term mutually beneficial relationship.
Marion Mallory, the company's founder, holds multiple patents in the automobile sector dating back to 1916. Mallory owned patents on various items, including sophisticated carburetors, cutting-edge internal combustion engines, and enhanced air inlet devices. Mallory had patents under his name initially, but since 1925, all patents have been licensed under the brand's name.
Mallory focused on ignitions, but he also improved coil and distributor design concepts and developed a breakerless magneto. Mallory's patent applications are held in a lot of nations, such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and European countries such as France and Germany.
Mallory also supplied racing-related merchandise. Vehicles outfitted with their ignition systems have won several races for many years. W.R. Grace, Inc. bought Mallory in 1976. Mr. Gasket was also owned by W.R. Grace, Inc., which launched a marine product business. Super Shops, Inc. bought the company in 1981 and managed to retain the brand's reputation and extend the racing tradition.
Mallory was purchased by Echlin, Inc. in 1998, which merged with the DANA Corporation. Mr. Gasket was purchased by Prestolite Wire Corporation in 2007 and rebranded Prestolite Performance, a holding company that includes Mallory and Mallory Marine, Mr. Gasket, Hays, Lakewood, Prestolite Wire, and ACCEL.
That was the year Mallory moved to Ohio. Mallory is now based in Ohio, where it all started after more than 80 years as a top company in one-of-a-kind ignitions.
