OEM Superchargers
It is simple to boost the number of air introduced into the engine cylinder per unit time by raising engine speed or increasing the air density at the inlet. Inertia load rises as engine speed increases, demanding a strong and sturdy engine to withstand pressures. In addition, increased engine speed reduces volumetric efficiency, increases friction, and increases bearing loads.
Supercharging is the process of raising the density of the incoming air. The engine's power output is increased as a result of this. Supercharging is accomplished by introducing air or an air-fuel mixture higher than the engine's naturally aspirated pressure. This raises the air density and, as a result, the amount of air or air-fuel mixture introduced for the same swept volume, increasing the engine's power output. The pressure of air is increased using a device known as a supercharger.
What is a supercharger?
A supercharger is a type of air compressor that boosts the pressure or density of air delivered to an internal combustion engine. This increases the amount of oxygen available to the engine during each intake cycle, allowing it to burn more fuel and perform more work, resulting in increased power. A belt, gear, shaft, or chain attached to the engine's crankshaft can deliver mechanical power to the supercharger.
How do Superchargers work?
By compressing air beyond atmospheric pressure without generating a vacuum, superchargers improve intake. This boosts the engine by forcing more air into it. It can supply more gasoline to the charge with additional air, which boosts the engine's power. Supercharging increases horsepower and torque by an average of 46% and 31%, respectively. When engine performance degrades due to its low density and pressure air at higher elevations, a supercharger feeds higher-pressure air to the engine, allowing it to work at its best.
Unlike turbochargers, which get their energy from the exhaust gases produced by combustion, superchargers get it right from the crankshaft. Most of them are powered by an auxiliary belt that loops around a pulley linked to a driving gear. The drive gear rotates the compressor gear. The compressor's rotor can have a variety of forms, but its primary function is to bring air in, compress it into a smaller space, and release it into the intake manifold.
Why go for OEM Superchargers?
- Increased power and performance
- Better induction of charge mass
- Greater atomization of fuel is possible
- Better air and fuel mixture
- Improved acceleration of vehicle
- Ideal and smooth combustion
- Improved mechanical efficiency
- Enhanced cold starting
- Reduced exhaust smoke
The most major benefit of a supercharger is the additional horsepower. When you add a supercharger to a regular car or truck, it transforms it into a vehicle with a bigger, more powerful engine. But what if you're deciding between a supercharger and a turbocharger? This is a widely discussed topic among auto experts and automobile fans, although superchargers do have a few advantages over turbochargers in general.
Superchargers have no lag, which is the amount of time that passes between the driver depressing the gas pedal and the engine responding. Because it requires a few seconds for the exhaust gases to achieve a velocity high enough to drive the turbine, turbochargers suffer from lag. Since superchargers are powered directly by the crankshaft, there is no lag time. Some superchargers are more powerful at lower RPMs, whereas, at higher RPMs, others are more convenient. Roots and twin-screw superchargers, for instance, deliver higher power at lower RPMs. Centrifugal superchargers produce more power at higher RPM by becoming more effective as the impeller spins faster.
A turbocharger requires considerable exhaust system modification, whereas superchargers can be mounted to the top or side of the engine. As a result, they are less expensive to install and maintain.
