SWISHER HISTORY

Even before rural Missouri received electricity, Max Swisher was busy manufacturing "handmade" lawn mowers from inside his mother's chicken coop. The truth is that Max was never interested in cutting grass. What he did appreciate was utilizing his imagination to develop more efficient methods of accomplishing tasks. Max expertly added a gearbox to the family lawn mower, transforming it into a self-propelled machine. He then proceeded to tie one end of a long rope to his new self-propelled mower and the other to a tree in the center of the yard that required mowing. Max's new mower is circling the tree, each time shortening the rope and directing the mower in exact concentric circles. Meanwhile, Max spent the afternoon lounging beneath a nearby shade tree as his invention took care of everything! Max was responsible for the invention of the self-propelled rotary lawn mower. Neighbors took notice of his new invention and began requesting that he produce additional self-propelled mowers. That was the gradual beginning of the Swisher brand, which dates all the way back to 1945.
